Very interesting photo gallery from Richard Renaldi entitled Touching Strangers. The premise: get complete strangers to pose for a picture together, but have them touch each other for the actual pose.
I’ve read some complaints claiming these are less than authentic because the minute you ask these people to pose in a certain way (by touching each other in this case), they become actors.
I don’t buy it. The point is these people aren’t actors, they’re random people off the street. (Of course they could be professional actors by chance; not likely). And I don’t think by temporarily elevating them to “actor” status for the purpose of a few photographs, that removes any of the apprehension towards personal contact with someone unknown.
