Some of Google’s 30 new themes for Gmail are quite nice. To my eye, a few significantly help de-clutter the Gmail interface. I switched to Shiny and some of the visual distractions are less prominent.
Now if the Gmail team would introduce a way for me to get rid of all the obnoxious standalone hyperlinks I’d be much happier. Or they could simply make more liberal use the actual Settings link. Also, why is the “Invite a friend” box still displayed?
Visual complaints aside, I still love Gmail. I’m continually impressed by its speed and usability; especially compared to other web clients, including Apple’s MobileMe.

After just experimenting with the new themes the other day, I too settled on the Shiny theme and have enjoyed it thus far.
